SCHMIDT® Barcode Capabilities Using the ServoPress System
PRC4000 with Barcode Scanner
Barcodes can be brought into the PressControl4000 through different means and used for several different purposes. A Barcode can be linked to a pressing operation where a particular graph can be matched up to a particular part. Other information can be tied to the graph as well, such as dataset name/number, date, time, static text, continuous counter or any other variable that pertains to a particular work piece. The Barcode can be directly scanned via a Barcode scanner or thru an OPC link by an OPC client application.
Barcode Scanner Interface Requirements
The Barcode scanner has to be capable of sending unsolicited messages over a serial communications link (RS232/RS422/RS485).
The PRC4000 has two available RS232 ports that can be used for a Barcode scanner, additional ports can be added via Ethernet.
Supply Voltage: 5-24VDC
Communications: Unsolicited Serial (RS232 preferred)
Terminating Character: Scanner must output at least one terminating character.
Multiple Scanners
- Used for part tracking, tooling verification, lot number, etc.
- Alphanumeric characters used for graph naming
- Numeric data can be used as input variables specific to the work piece

- Input pressing criteria
- Label a graph with work piece identification
- Read lot numbers
- Combine any of the above functions
- Verify a new barcode has been read
- Enable / disable barcode reading
- Readable barcode formats: Depends on barcode scanner capability
- Max. alphanumeric characters for Graph name:128
- Max. numeric value for Barcode: +/- 2147483647
Specific parts of the barcode can be extracted if the barcode format is consistent.
