SCHMIDT® Nr. 74.150.22 Hydro-Pneumatic Press
Application, Requirements
- Press five bushings into transmission side cover. All bushings have to be pressed flush, regardless of dimensional tolerances within the components.
Monitor insertion force of individual bushings - Clamp delicate, non-machined casting surface in seven places with even force
- Flexibility for three different assemblies
Concept Description
This unconventional concept utilizes a hydro-pneumatic press on a H-frame. The bushing anvils, housed in the anvil module, are located underneath a stationary clamping platform mounted to the lower cross plate on the press frame. The side cover is placed on the stationary clamping platform. The interchangeable clamping module is attached to the press ram. A flexible tooling concept accommodates all three assembly variations via interchangeable tooling. A tooling concept was applied that allows bushing anvils to press flush and clamping posts to automatically equalize so even force is applied to all seven points and dimensional variance is compensated for, regardless of tolerances. This principal has been successfully applied in cases where more than two points have to be ‘balanced’ regarding applied force.
Operation
- Manual loading of bushings, then housing
- Operator initiates cycle via light touch sensor
- The ram extends until clamping posts contact casting. Posts equalize so even force is applied to each of the seven posts
- Press frame begins to lift off the work station, i.e. the press lifts itself up.
- Bushings are being inserted as the frame keeps lifting. Anvils equalize so all bushings are seated to
proper depth - Once force is reached, ram retracts
- Operator removes the finished assembly and repeats
the process. - Detecting failed bushings need to be acknowledged viaFAULT reset button on HMI. HMI is used to select thecomponent (part number) being assembled, set min / maxforces, etc.
