SCHMIDT® Nr. 29-2K.200 Direct Acting Air Press:
Application, Requirements
On two assemblies, two bearings are to be pressed onto three different length shafts covering an overall length from 4.4 to 7.4 inches. The bottom bearing is always pressed to the same depth. The difference between the two assemblies is the depth of the second bearing (less deep). There are two different depths.
Concept Description
Two intermediate stops are integrated with the Nr 29 Direct Acting Press, one for each bearing depth for the second bearing. To complete one assembly, two press strokes are necessary; first one with intermediate stop retracted, the second one with the intermediate stop extended. Included with this station is a higher column to accommodate the length of the components. A set of custom designed tooling will properly fixture, align and support the assemblies. The upper tool is U-shaped in order to be able to operate with a shorter press stroke. So the intermediate stop and the two cycle operation can be properly sequenced, a small programmable control was utilized.
Operation
- Select appropriate intermediate position via selector switch – short or long
- Place shaft / yoke in fixture
- Place first bearing over shaft
- Initiate press cycle via two hand control
- Press ram extends and returns once full stroke has been reached

- Place second bearing on shaft, intermediate stop extends
- Initiate press cycle via two hand control
- Press ram extends and returns once full stroke has been reached
- Remove completed assembly, intermediate stop retracts
Equipment, Performance
- No. 29.200-2k with tall column
- (2) Intermediate stop devices
- Stroke completion sensor.
- PRC200 programmable control
- Anti-tie down, anti-repeat two hand control
Cycle time: approximately 30 seconds part to part
