As part of setting the press up, determine the approximate head height for easy loading/unloading of parts, while keeping the stroke to a minimum.
Once the lock screws on the back of the column are loosened, set the head height and then tighten the screws firmly. If you have a return lock installed on your rack & pinion press, then simply loosen the lock screw so the return lock idles before setting the head height.
Tighten all screws lightly.
On a rack & pinion press, loosen the stroke limit block.
Lower the ram to the part. On a rack & pinion press, tighten the stroke limit block.
Now tighten the screws to secure the head to the column.
Turn the control ON and apply air pressure.
Cycle the press, then adjust the stroke fine adjustment as necessary.
